Travelling through the Arctic is always an incredible experience, but on this assignment for BBC Radio 4 I got to soak up the festivities of mid-summer on the longest day of the year.
By 10pm the festivities were in full swing with guitars, tambourines and a particularly out of tune accordion. And what had started out as a ridged, nervous affair was quickly becoming lubricated with plenty of homebrewed beer and lashings of locally distilled peach schnapps. All around me, friends and families, some dressed in red, blue and green traditional floral dresses, slugged from glass bottles and ambled around the raging fire.
