A very British pastime in Peru – Stumped, BBC World Service

Cricket in Peru has a fascinating history that I enjoyed learning about during my time living in the Peruvian capital. As a sideline to reporting for the BBC, I also helped coach the boys’ and women’s national sides.

Lima Cricket Club was founded in 1859 and cricket has been played in Lima, on and off, since then. The first match against a foreign team by a Peruvian team was against Sir Pelham Warner’s MCC side on its way back from Australia, via Chile and Peru, in 1927.
