Battling searing heat and strong winds I toured around South Africa’s Western Cape at the height of summer. This is a region of subtropical vineyards and world-renowned organic cuisine.
Lacquered in thick factor fifty sun cream while being blasted by the sand-filled gusts coming off the Atlantic Ocean, I resembled a human-shaped sugar-topped iced bun. Just five kilometres east of the seaside town of Muizenberg and the infamous ‘Cape Doctor’ was attempting a wind-assisted lobotomy. It felt like I was inhaling as much sand as I was oxygen, but nevertheless, it didn’t detract from the incredible beauty of my rugged surroundings.
